EIGHTH GRADE HOMEWORK POLICY -Homework is considered late if not turned in when it is requested within the class period.
-Late work handed in within 24 hours of when it is due will receive their score less 50%. Homework turned in later than this will receive an additional 10% deduction for each day it is late up until the 5th school day that it is late. At this point the assignment will earn no credit.
-If major projects are late, there will be a 10% deduction for each day after the due date. There usually will be a "drop dead" date after which no projects will be accepted under any circumstances. This will be spelled out explicitly on the project information sheet that will be given out when the project is assigned.
-Each teacher on the team has a system for picking up missed work inside or outside his/her classroom. If your child is absent, he/she needs to pick his/her homework up from each teacher. This gives the student the responsibility for collecting and completing their homework on time. For me the assignment will be removed once the grace period is over (one day absent = one day to complete assignment).
-If your child has questions about homework, the teacher is always willing to assist them, but it is the student's responsibility to ask those questions.
HOMEWORK MAKE-UP POLICY If a student is absent from school with an excused absence they will be given extra time to complete assignments missed while they were absent. Students will be given the same amount of time to make up assignments as they were excused with their absence up to a maximum of one week. After that time assignments will be considered to be late and will follow the "Eighth Grade Homework Policy." It is each student's responsibility to find out what assignments were missed when they were absent. It is not the teacher's responsibility to chase down a student in order to give him/her any missed assignments. The student should plan to see his/her teacher for make-up work during Zero Hour (8:40-9:10 AM) on the first day back to school after the absence. Missed tests should be planned to be made up during Zero Hour on the day student returns to school. When a student will be absent for 2 or more days then a request may be made to have homework assignments left in the office for after- school pick up. Please do not ask for assignments to be prepared if the student will be absent only one day.
